This recipe makes 2 pizzas.
Dough:
3 1/4 c. all-purpose flour
½ c. yellow cornmeal
1 1/4 tsp. salt
1 Tbs. granulated sugar
1 packet of yeast
1 1/4 c. slightly warm water
1 stick of butter, divided (1/2 melted, other 1/2 softened)
olive oil
Non-stick spray
Sauce:
2 Tbs. butter
1 small onion, finely chopped
2 tsp. Italian Seasoning
1/2 tsp. crushed red pepper flakes
3 garlic cloves, minced
1 28-oz. can crushed tomatoes
1/4 tsp. granulated sugar
Toppings:
4 c. shredded cheese (Mozzarella or an Italian Blend)
1/2 c. grated parmesan cheese
Your choice of toppings: onions, green peppers, pepperoni, Italian sausage, black olives, whatever you like!
Equipment:
Measuring cups, spoons
Hand mixer/standing mixer/or large spoon
Glass bowl or casserole dish
Spring form pan
Yield: Makes 2 pizzas
Remember-- you can make the second pizza as well using the last few steps or you can freeze the dough and remainder of the sauce for up to 2 months. That would be a great idea for busy families!
